We are hoping you will join us in praying specifically for the country and people of Southern Sudan. After almost half a century of civil war South Sudan voted to become an independent nation on January 9th of this year. On July 9th South Sudan will become it’s own nation and celebrate their first independence day. It is hard for us to imagine the excitement the Southern Sudanese must be feeling as this date approaches after years of war, slavery, destruction and poverty.
This day of independence is not approaching without conflict. Some of the border areas contain valuable assets that Sudan is reluctant to give up. This has caused some increased violence in those areas. Please join us in praying that peace will return to South Sudan. That border conflicts will be resolved and that the day of independence will usher in an era of peace for the Southern Sudanese. (the BBC has some great coverage on this conflict you can find more information here).
