So much to be thankful for

One of Flower’girl’s favorite pastimes in South Sudan

Here are a few of the many measures of Grace we’ve been given over the last few weeks

4 times Claire and Bethany came over to help handwash thrown up on laundry

2 or possibly more meals that Bethany cooked for the well folks so I could stay home and help the girls get better

7 times that Daniel threw up which prompted us to decided to get medical help. He was fine but the girls needed it. We praise God he helped us make the right decision through Daniel

1 plane that was able to be rerouted through our logistics department to pick us up six hours after we requested.

1 pilot that was amazing and even set up a sick station in the back for us.

1 single cab pick-up Eli was able to rent last minute to get us to the airstrip

2 days to get into Nairobi where no one got too sick to travel

2 care packages and cartons of ice cream in our freezer welcoming us into Nairobi

2 girls that were able to be admitted in the same room for re hydration and to help them recover.

4 meals prepared by amazing teammates while Flower-girl and PJ were in the hospital (with mom) for four days.

1 bunch of flowers welcoming us home.

2 days earlier that all our teammates had to leave Doro because our family “messed up the flights”. This meant they avoided tribal gunfire that happened on the ground the day they were suppose to leave.

3 days of recovery in the guesthouse

3 doctors monitoring Flower-girl by phone and triaging as she began to get worse

1 birthday celebration with PJ before we took Flower-girl to the hospital

1 teammate who took a 45 minute taxi ride to sit with me when Flower-girl was admitted a second time

thousands of people praying at the exact moment we needed grace.

7 meals brought over for J– and the other three during our second hospital stay

3 cards brought to the hospital by visitors

4 days of company where friends made the long taxi ride up to sit with me.

1 amazing husband who reduced our kids stress level by staying at home and playing lots of fun games with them.

1 positive blood slide for Malaria that could be treated immediately.

1 infectious disease doctor who knew of an antibiotic that was relatively new to Africa and helped Flower-girl turn the corner.

1 of Abook’s best friends who was the perfect time distance to cry on the phone with her in the “middle” of an african night.

2 countries where we could medically evacuate where fellow SIM missionaries were ready to greet us and help us

17 nights of four hours or less of uninterrupted sleep and the energy to keep going given from God.

countless moments of grace when things got hard and we missed the cultural comforts of home.

1 passport for Flower-girl that meant that she has access to the medical care she needed to live. Undeserved Grace.

1 team doctor that allowed me to triage with her for countless hours and nights and help me navigate the healthcare system here.

5 times I (Abuk) cried out I cannot do this any longer through tears and God provided grace for the moment.

1 pair of on loan slippers to make the hospital floor less cold

That is a whole lot of mercies for three weeks.

Thank you for sharing the amazing way God is always with us, even in the most difficult and dark times. Such an amazing testimony of God’s grace, and a great reminder to me to also look to be able to truly see all the amazing ways God gives us grace each moment. We will continue to cry out prayers for you and your family!

Abuk, Thank you for the privilege of praying for your family, and thank you for taking time to share your testimony with us.

Lord, Thank You for the many blessings you have lavished on the C— family in these trying times. And thank You that the safest place for this family to be, is right in the center of Your will. Amen.

count it all joy for the various trials – why? because you can experience God’s Grace and His care through His people and other circumstances that you never realize in the good times.
I’m so sorry your family had to go through this hard hard time – however, I rejoice with you in the list of God’s mighty hand and goodness every moment in your life in a very tangible way.

We join your parents, Ben and Mary, here in Oregon, in praying for your family each week. Pastor Ben shares updates with our church. We rejoice with you for the good news we heard yesterday and continue to pray for complete recovery and returning joy and health.

Thank you for the vivid reminder to see His hand of care in the midst of darkness…”God will make a way, where there seems to be no way…He works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way for me!.”

I’ve always found my closest and deepest times to be with God are in song. Sometimes if I just sing my prayers it seems like I’m connecting better. These last few weeks remind me of a song we sing in worship. “Oh God. You never leave my side. Your love stands firm through all my life.” I have been seeing all your updates and it warms my heart all the amazing “little” miracles he has continued to pour over you guys. Praise God!!
