Yesterday we received word that Rev. Philip Eisa died suddenly in the early afternoon.

We have only been in Melut a short time but we grieve deeply with his wife Lydia and his five children, the college, the church, the Melut community, the Maabaan community and our fellow missionaries.

Philip was a godly man who loved generously, prayed faithfully, diligently studied and shepherded many Sudanese to know God more. He had many opportunities that his education presented him and he chose to use his gifts in service to God.

As we grieve we are grateful that we knew him, that we could call him friend and learn from his service, we are grateful for the legacy he leaves behind.

Philip was the first man we met upon arriving in Melut, he was quick to pray for us, to shepherd us, and to encourage us. His love was most recently exemplified to our family when we were leaving to care for the girls. He dismissed class early so the students could come pray over us. He stopped his busy schedule to come over and pray over our truck and our family. He prayed that the Lord would return us to Melut healed, but that God would be glorified in our coming and our going. We pray the same in this time, God was greatly glorified in the life of Philip, we pray He will be equally glorified in his going.

Our team flies early tomorrow to return to Melut in time for his services, we are here grieving and awaiting our medical clearance to return to our Melut family.

Please pray for our team as they grieve that God will give them cultural insight to mourn well with our community, pray for Philip’s family that God will provide for them as they transition, pray for the students as they mourn a mentor and friend and process what this means for their future, pray for the many in Melut that do not know God that Philip’s life and legacy will lead them toward knowing a Savior. Pray for the Southern Sudanese Church that they will have renewed passion as they reflect on Philip’s service. Pray for Gideon Theological College as they look at the future and mourn Philip’s leadership. Pray for us as we grieve apart from our Melut family that God will be honored in our grief. Thank you for being our partners in the ups and downs of life. We are grateful to you.

Principle Philip leading prayers at chapel.

Philip praying over us as we departed for medical help.

J and Philip say words of thanksgiving over the provision of houses for GTC

 Rev.
